A yantra is a magic square, which has personal meaning to the person creating it (Webster, 2004). Its purpose is to instill the qualities of intent it is created with into the person who creates it and carries it with them. A personal yantra aids in increasing confidence, self-esteem and success.
Life Path Number
To create your personal yantra, you must first use numerology to determine your life path number (Goodwin, 1981). This is the number from the date of your birth, which determines your purpose in life.
Write out your birth date in numeric form on a sheet of paper. Mine would be written as 10-31-1963. Add these numbers together to get a total. My total is 2004, which I now need to reduce to a single digit by adding the 2 and 4 together. The single digit reduction is 6 and this is my life path number.
If, while reducing your numbers to a single digit, you come up with 11 or 22, do not reduce these to a single digit as these are master numbers and are higher and more difficult life path lessons.
Creating Your Personal Yantra
Your yantra will be a square with a total of 16 numbers. All of these numbers will add up to the same sum no matter what direction you add them - straight across, up and down, or diagonally. The first line of your yantra will consist of your birth month, your birth day, the last two digits of your birth year, and your life path number. My first line would appear as 10, 31, 63, and 6. My total sum is 110.
You will use these four numbers to construct the rest of your personal yantra. On your sheet of paper, write the letters A, B, C, and D and place your first four numbers beneath them. You will not use the letters on your magic square; however, you do need them to determine the other 12 numbers of your yantra. The second line of numbers will go directly beneath your first four numbers. To find the first number, use the number under C and subtract 2 from it. This will be the first number in your second line. To get the second number, use the number under D and add 2 to it. Your third number uses the number in your first line under A, subtracting 2 from it. The last number in line two will be using the number in your first line under B, adding 2 to it. My own personal yantra appears, so far, as follows:
10,31,63,6
61,8,8,33
When finding the numbers for lines two, three and four, you will always use the numbers in your first line under A, B, C, and D. Line three is constructed by combining D plus 1 for the first number, C plus 1 for the second number, B minus 1 for the third number and A minus 1 for the fourth number.
Line four of your magic square will be created by getting the sum of B plus 1 for the first number, A minus 3 for the second number, D plus 3 for the third number, and C minus 1 for the fourth number. My personal yantra now looks like this:
10,31,63,6
61,8,8,33
7,64,30,9
32,7,9,62
Check Your Math
As you can see, no matter which line of numbers are added together, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, the sum will be 110 in my yantra. To be certain that your personal yantra is correct, check your math by adding up each line to make sure they all come up to the same number. If they do not, go back and check your formulas for lines two, three and four.
Do not worry if you have a zero as one of your numbers or a negative number. This will happen occasionally, especially if you have a birth month of January or February. If your calculations come up with a negative number, put a minus sign with the number next to it in your magic square in the appropriate position. You will then treat it as a negative number when checking your math in each line.
Your Completed Magic Square
Transfer your numbers now to a small square piece of wood or a flat stone or whatever you wish to carry with you. Your intent of increasing confidence, self-esteem and success through your personal yantra has now been sent out to the universe where it can begin working toward offering you opportunities to use these qualities to your benefit. It is up to you to accept what the universe sends your way.
