Becoming a medium and/or a channeling medium is not as difficult as you might think. It just requires a few different steps and practice.

A medium is a person who can communicate with spirit guides, deceased loved ones and earthbound spirits through imagery, hearing, and/or feeling. A channeling medium is someone who allows their spirit guide or a higher level guide to speak directly through them. Learning to become a medium and/or a channeling medium is not at all difficult and can be very rewarding.

Beginning Mediumship

Years ago, while looking for someone to do an MP3 interview with my husband for our website, I discovered a medium by the name of Rachel Keene, in England, who could do drawings of spirit guides. Before requesting the interview, I wanted to be certain she would deliver as stated, so I paid the fee and sent her my photo.

While I waited the ten days she wanted customers to allow, I began having dreams of an alphabet pendulum board that I was supposed to design and wood burn. At the same time, my husband took the family to the Meskwaki Indian Pow Wow where I purchased a beautiful pendulum that seemed to beckon.

When my spirit guide drawing came through email from Rachel, I met Sakeina, my main spirit guide. This began my work as a medium, though not in the traditional manner. Using the alphabet board and the pendulum, I began communicating with Sakeina on a daily basis. Later, through various steps, I began work as a channeling medium.

The First Step

Though most instructions concerning opening up your mediumship abilities require specific meditation, I found this was not necessary when using the pendulum board. Oftentimes, while I dowsed, I would be listening to a television show in the background or having a conversation with one of my children.

After several months of practicing and communicating with your guide through dowsing, you may begin to notice that you receive several words of a sentence in your head before they are spelled out on the pendulum board. With more practice, you will begin getting full sentences in your head before they are spelled out on the board. You may, at first, believe the words are coming from you, but they are not. Your mind is beginning to open up to allow the words to come straight from your guide to you without the use of the pendulum board. Trust the process.

Advancing to the Computer

Once you begin getting full sentences in your head, you may become frustrated with how slow the pendulum dowsing process is. This is when you advance yourself to using the computer or, if you do not have a computer, writing out what you receive in a notebook.

Pull up a blank page in whatever writing program you have on your computer, place your fingers on the keyboard, and close your eyes. If your typing abilities are a bit shaky, you can keep your eyes open. Begin typing whatever words or sentences come into your head.

My guide, Sakeina, gave me a helping hand by putting up an imaginary divider in my mind. On one side of this divider were my thoughts and on the other side of the divider were the words she was communicating to me. This made it easy for me to know that what I was typing was coming from her and not me. Your guide may do this in a different manner for you. Whatever manner your guide uses with you, be open to it.

As with the pendulum dowsing, you must practice. Get together with your guide as often as you can. When you are comfortable with this process and able to get information without hesitation, you are ready for channeling your guide.

Becoming a Channeling Medium

Ask your guide if they are willing to allow you to channel. If you are ready, your guide will gladly work with you.

Purchase a microphone for your computer and download Audacity which is a free recording program. You will want to record your channelings as you may not be able to remember everything that is said. If you do not have a computer, use a handheld tape recorder.

Set up your method of recording, then let your guide know you are ready. Open your mouth and speak the words you are getting in your head just as you typed the words on your computer or wrote them down in a notebook. It may be slow at first as your guide connects his or her energy to yours, but with practice, it will get faster. Do not be surprised if your guide speaks with an accent of some sort.

Everyone will advance through these steps at a different pace. Do not rush the process - enjoy it. Before you know it, you will be a medium and/or a channeling medium, able to receive higher guidance.
